Debate
Objection: But Deuteronomy 6:4 states that God is one.
Response: Yes, we believe that God is one God but three persons (I John 5:7).
Objection: But the Trinity doesn’t make sense—how can there be one God but three persons?
Response: We cannot fully grasp the truth of the Trinity, but this does not make it any less true. It is enough for us that the Bible declares it, and we believe it. It does make sense that the nature of an eternal, almighty God would be beyond the grasp of human logic.
Objection: This makes us rely on mysteries for our theology. We need to rely more on logic.
Response: Human wisdom is fatally flawed. We need to take God’s Word for what it says, even when it does not make sense. We cannot rely on our logic above the Scriptures.
