All the animals could fit in less than half of the Ark’s space, leaving room for other things like food.
Only air-breathing land animals and birds boarded the Ark, not fish or insects, 1 2 and not every modern species needed to be represented, just biblical kinds. 3 This means that there were at most 16,000 birds and animals on the Ark 4 5 In addition, for animals like large dinosaurs or elephants, God probably sent younger (smaller) representatives.
The Ark had about 100,000 square feet of deck-level floor space. 6 All 16,000 animals could fit in 47% of the Ark, which doesn’t take into account that Noah probably tiered cages and may have stored animals in groups 7 for even more space.
