"What should be the new moon sacrifice?" (Alleged Contradiction #E4172)
And in the beginnings of your months ye shall offer a burnt offering unto the LORD; two young bullocks, and one ram, seven lambs of the first year without spot …
Numbers 28:11
And in the day of the new moon it shall be a young bullock without blemish, and six lambs, and a ram: they shall be without blemish.
Ezekiel 46:6
Response
Ezekiel was not quoting the Law; the LORD was speaking directly to Israel at that time (see verse 1). Thus, what God wanted the offering to be in Ezekiel’s time was different than what He wanted in the time of Moses, 1 but this certainly does not represent a contradiction. Perhaps the people were poorer when Ezekiel gave the command due to their previous captivity, which is why God reduced the requirement by a lamb and a young bullock.
