"How many languages existed before the Tower of Babel?" (Alleged Contradiction #E5009)
By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.
Genesis 10:5
And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
Genesis 11:1
Response
Genesis 10 documents genealogies which extend far past the Tower of Babel event in Genesis 11. During the Tower of Babel event in Genesis 11, there was only one language. The genealogies that followed the Tower of Babel (covered in chapter 10) obviously had multiple languages.
