"Who made the ark of the covenant?" (Alleged Contradiction #E2166)
At that time the LORD said unto me [Moses], Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first, and come up unto me into the mount, and make thee an ark of wood. … And I made an ark of shittim wood, and hewed two tables of stone like unto the first, and went up into the mount, having the two tables in mine hand.
Deuteronomy 10:1-3
And Bezaleel made the ark of shittim wood: two cubits and a half was the length of it, and a cubit and a half the breadth of it, and a cubit and a half the height of it …
Exodus 37:1
Response
The ark that Moses made is not the same one that Bazaleel made later. Moses speaks of making an ark when he is on the mount with God, which occurs around Exodus 20. Later, Bazaleel made an ark for the tabernacle, overlaying it within and without with gold (Exodus 37:2).
