"Did Jesus tell his apostles to bring shoes and a staff?" (Alleged Contradiction #E8081)
Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses, nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat.
Matthew 10:9-10
And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece.
Luke 9:3
Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way.
Luke 10:4
And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse: but be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats.
Mark 6:8-9
Response
Jesus told the disciples not to take extra shoes or staff (“staves”, “neither two coats”), or put another way, not to carry shoes (Luke 10:4) or provide “shoes” and “staves” (Matthew 10:9-10). They were to take nothing extra: only the pair of sandals they had on and a single staff.
