Response
We should be wise based on God’s standards, but foolish based on the world’s standards.
In I Corinthians 1:21, Paul is saying that even God’s “weakness” (preaching) is stronger than men (I Corinthians 1:25). In I Corinthians 4:10, Paul is saying that he is mocked for Christ’s sake, or made a fool in the world’s sight, not God’s. To fear the LORD is the beginning of knowledge (Proverbs 1:7), but the world rejects this and tries to come with its own ways of finding the truth apart from God, which, although the world considers this to be wisdom, is foolishness with God.
