"Who is the most blessed woman?" (Alleged Contradiction #E3113)
And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
Luke 1:26-28
Blessed above women shall Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite be, blessed shall she be above women in the tent.
Judges 5:24
Response
Mary was certainly “blessed…among women,” though this verse does not say that Mary was necessarily the most blessed of all time. The reference to Jael was in a song of poetry and praise written by Deborah and Barak, and the reference could have been to the women alive at that time, not necessarily to the women of all time, and so there is no contradiction.
