"Who was the mother of Abijah?" (Alleged Contradiction #E4610)
Now in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam the son of Nebat reigned Abijam over Judah. Three years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Maachah, the daughter of Abishalom.
I Kings 15:1-2
Now in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam began Abijah to reign over Judah. He reigned three years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Michaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.
II Chronicles 13:1-2
Response
Maachah could be a nickname for Michaiah, and Uriel and Abishalom could be husband and wife, 1 or Uriel could be a grandfather. Or, one of them could be the grandmother of Abijah (“father” sometimes refers to patriarch rather than direct father).
