Notes
- Rhodes, 2012, p. 25: “Massive as [Earth’s crust] seems to us, it represents only some 0.5 percent of Earth’s radius.” ↩
- Rhodes, 2012, p. 25: “The rocks of the Earth’s crust, so vital to life as we know it, remain just that–a crust, a think layer five to twenty-five miles in thickness, of light rock on a denser molten and mobile interior. It is this hot and mobile interior core and outer mantle that give rise to the active “living” crust that distinguishes Earth from its inert planetary neighbors, forming another link in the remarkable chain of features that make it congenial to life.” ↩
