"Did Zedekiah see the king of Babylon?" (Alleged Contradiction #E2635)
And thou shalt not escape out of his hand, but shalt surely be taken, and delivered into his hand; and thine eyes shall behold the eyes of the king of Babylon, and he shall speak with thee mouth to mouth, and thou shalt go to Babylon.
Jeremiah 34:3
And they slew the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes, and put out the eyes of Zedekiah, and bound him with fetters of brass, and carried him to Babylon.
II Kings 25:7
Response
Yes, Zedekiah saw Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon.
Notice the order of events in Jeremiah 34:3:
- He would be delivered into the hands of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon
- He would see Nebuchadnezzar with his eyes
- He would speak with Nebuchadnezzar
- Then he would be taken to Babylon
They must have put out his eyes between event #2 and #4. Notice that in II Kings 25:1, Nebuchadnezzar had personally come against Jerusalem, not just his army. It makes sense that the king captured from the opposing side would be brought to Nebuchadnezzar before his eyes were put out.
