Jeremiah 52:31
II Kings 25:27
Response
Evilmerodach issued the command to release Jehoiachin from prison on the 25th day of the month. It took two days before this command was fully carried out 1 and Jehoiachin was presentable to sit at the king’s table. After all, the prison was probably filthy, and Jehoiachin probably needed a clean change of clothes made for him to be in the king’s presence. The prison where Jehoiachin was being kept may have also been some distance from the palace.
This is further evidenced by the wording: on the 25th, the king “lifted up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah, and brought him forth out of prison” (two separate thoughts, not necessarily happening on the same day), whereas on the 27th, the king “did lift up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah out of prison” (implying he was actually released on this day).
