"How many of each clean animal did Noah take into the ark?" (Alleged Contradiction #E4246)
Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth, there went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah. … And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life.
Genesis 7:8-9, 15
Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female.
Genesis 7:2
And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female.
Genesis 6:19
Response
Noah took seven pairs of clean animals (“by sevens, the male and his female”). Each individual pair consisted of two, the male and the female, and so even the clean animals came in “two and two…male and female”. Thus, there is no discrepancy.
Genesis 6:19 is not a discrepancy, since it is a general rule and does not mention the clean animals, which are an exception and are mentioned in more detail later.
