"Who was Moses’ father-in-law?" (Alleged Contradiction #E8657)
The Bible gives three names for Moses’ father-in-law: Jethro (Exodus 3:1; 4:18; 18:1), Hobab (Judges 4:11; Numbers 10:29), and Reul (Exodus 2:18-21).
Response
Moses remarried after his first wife, Zipporah, apparently died (Numbers 12:1 describes Moses’ wife at the time being Ethiopian, but Zipporah was a Midianite). Thus, Moses had two fathers-in-law; Jethro (who also went by the name Reul), and Hobab.
