"Did Judas identify Jesus with a kiss?" (Alleged Contradiction #E3435)
The Bible says that Judas identified Jesus with a kiss (Matthew 26:47-49, Mark 14:43-45, Luke 22:47-48). However, John 18:3-5 says that Jesus identified Himself.
Response
A possible order of events:
-
Judas identifies Jesus with a kiss
- Jesus asks, “Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?”
- Jesus asks the others, “Whom seek ye?”
- They tell Him that they are seeking Jesus of Nazareth
- Jesus answers, “I am he.”
There is no contradiction—we just need to put the pieces together.
