"Who brought evil on Job?" (Alleged Contradiction #E4757)
So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.
Job 2:7
Then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an earring of gold.
Job 42:11
Response
Satan brought the evil on Job. God allowed it.
Job’s family thought that God had directly brought this on Job (Job 42:11), but this does not mean that they were correct in their thinking. The Bible simply records what they thought. In fact, God never told even Job what really happened, and so for all that Job and his family knew, God had brought this on him. In reality, however, Satan brought the evil on Job, but God allowed it.
