I Kings 9:23: “These were the chief of the officers that were over Solomon’s work, five hundred and fifty, which bare rule over the people that wrought in the work.”
II Chronicles 8:10: “And these were the chief of king Solomon’s officers, even two hundred and fifty, that bare rule over the people.”
Response
A large organization will have vice presidents, managers, supervisors, and workers, and sometimes even more divisions of people who are overseeing (or being overseen). The Kings account lumps 300 lower-level managers with the upper-level managers, resulting in 550 managers and 3300 supervisors. The Chronicles account lumps these lower-level managers with the supervisors, resulting in 250 managers and 3600 supervisors.
The fact that Solomon had at least three levels of managers/supervisors demonstrates that he was wise in organization. Modern large companies use a similar setup, and how you divide managers from supervisors depends on how you look at it.
