"When was the city of Dan named?" (Alleged Contradiction #E2755)
And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.
Genesis 14:14
And they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born unto Israel: howbeit the name of the city was Laish at the first.
Judges 18:29
Response
These are obviously different cities with the same name (“Dan”). Judges 18:29 says they called it Dan after a man “who was born unto Israel,” but the Israelites were not even a nation when Abraham rescued Lot.
Lots of different cities today share the same names, and so there is no problem.
