"Will God curse the earth?" (Alleged Contradiction #E7009)
And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.
Genesis 8:21
And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.
Malachi 4:6
From Malachi it sounds like God could curse the earth again if He is angry, but in Genesis God said He would never curse it again. Which is true?
Response
God said He would never curse the ground any more for man’s sake. There are many ways to “smite the earth with a curse” without actually cursing the ground. For instance, death, disease, war, economic havoc, and even famine are curses that do not curse the ground.
