"Who was Anah?" (Alleged Contradiction #E7579)
Esau took his wives of the daughters of Canaan; Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Aholibamah the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite…
Genesis 36:2
These are the sons of Seir the Horite, who inhabited the land; Lotan, and Shobal, and Zibeon, and Anah…
Genesis 36:20
And these are the children of Zibeon; both Ajah, and Anah: this was that Anah that found the mules in the wilderness, as he fed the asses of Zibeon his father.
Genesis 36:24
Response
These are three different Anahs. Two are men (Genesis 36:20, 24), and one is a woman (Geneis 36:2). There are two Zibeons; one in Genesis 36:2, and the other, mentioned in Genesis 36:20, who named his own son after his brother Anah.
Many names even in our culture are common (e.g., William or John) and can be either male or female (e.g., Jessie or Taylor). The fact that the Bible contains chronologies similar to real-life experience is evidence that it is true, not evidence that it contains contradictions.
