Response
The Bible says to judge nothing “before the time,” or when we do not know enough about the situation to make an informed judgment. He also says not to judge hypocritically, when we have a problem more serious than the one we are judging in someone else. 1 However, God wants us to live right, and then He commands us to actively combat darkness, 2 reprove “the unfruitful works of darkness,” 3 and rebuke when necessary. 4
In one sense, we are not the ones making the judgments: God has already made them in His Word. We are simply applying them to specific situations. For instance, when we declare that homosexuality is an abomination, we are not making our own judgment; rather, we are declaring the righteous judgment that God has already made in His Word. 5
