Evolutionists claim that life falls into a nested hierarchy, or a “tree of life.” They believe that more closely related animals should have similar genes (a molecular “clock”), since these genes evolved slowly over time. However, orphan genes surprise evolutionists. These genes do not have any similar counterparts in other animals, as if they “popped” into existence.
According to evolutionists, around 10-20% of a given organism’s genes are composed of orphan genes, 1 but sometimes as much as 50% are orphan genes. 2 Although orphan genes do not make sense from an evolutionary point of view, they make perfect sense from the biblical creationist model.
